How to Plan a Mobile App MVP: A Practical Guide for Businesses
An MVP is the smallest version of your app that proves real value to real users. Here is how to scope one without wasting budget.
A Minimum Viable Product (MVP) is not a cheap version of your app. It is the smallest version that solves one important problem well — so you can learn from real users before investing further.
1. Start with the problem, not the features
Write down, in one sentence, the problem your app solves and for whom. Every feature you consider should directly support that sentence.
2. Map the core user journey
Describe the steps a user takes from opening the app to getting value. For a delivery app that might be: browse → add to basket → pay → track order. Anything outside this journey can usually wait.
3. Prioritise ruthlessly
Sort features into must have, should have and later. An MVP contains only the first group.
4. Don't forget the admin side
Most apps need a way to manage content, users and orders. A simple admin dashboard is often part of the MVP.
5. Plan for what comes next
